Prayer of the Youth
on the occasion of the CBCP Year of the Youth

Almighty Father, God of life and love,
through time and ages, You love us.
You trust and choose us
to participate in Your saving work.

Bless us, Your young people,
with Your grace.
Give us the gift of living life to the full
by encountering Your Son
in a personal way
and sustaining a relationship with Him,
by learning what life truly is
from His words and works,
from His filial relationship with You,
And by living in true and fruitful
communion with You
and with one another.

Empower us through Your Holy Spirit
to stand firm in the faith.
May we bring our fellow young people
closer to You so that together,
we become agents of change
and builders of a society of justice and
solidarity, love and peace.

Enable all of us:
Your young people,
together with those ministering to us
in the Church, in families and in society,
to make a decisive response
to our universal vocation;
to live fully and fruitfully
by doing everything in love
as we follow Jesus Christ
along the path of genuine trust in You.

In communion with the rest of the Church,
we pray that this CBCP Year of the Youth
become a kairos time
for the youth ministry of Your Church
and a new springtime for us,
Filipino youth: a special period
of growing in Your grace
through our living in youthful holiness
and through our effort to reach out
as a Church to those waiting for Your love.

Together with our Blessed Mother,
our model in giving oneself
entirely to Your will,
we lift this prayer to You
in Jesus Christ, Your Son,
our Friend, Brother and Lord,
in the Power of the Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.

Young People: Stand firm in Christ!
(Pastoral Letter on the CBCP Year of the Youth)

DIOCESAN YOUTH DIRECTORS

DIOCESAN YOUTH LEADERS

Dear fellow ministers to the youth, fellow disciples,

Greetings in the Lord Jesus on this Day 232 of our CBCP Year of the Youth!

A most significant milestone in our celebration of this special year for our young people is the publication of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines of the Pastoral Letter on the occasion of the CBCP Year of the Youth entitled, Young People: Stand firm in Christ! This Pastoral Letter is a very concrete expression of the Church's preferential ministry for them, and will serve as a loud voice from the housetops, proclaiming our continued commitment to love them as God loves them.

The time is ripe; indeed, we are in a year of the Lord's favor. Our office requests you and all others who share in our commitment to youth ministry to have this Pastoral Letter read in all your parishes and other faith communities (BECs, religious communities, etc.) on 21 August 2011, which is also the culmination of the 26th World Youth Day. We envision the reading and hearing of this Pastoral Letter to resonate with this international meeting of young people gathered by Holy Mother Church together with the Vicar of Christ, His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI.

Please find attached copies of the Pastoral Letter: the first in its full form, the other in its short version (preferred version for reading in public). Aside from having the latter read on 21 August in all celebrations of the Eucharist, we hope that you will also promote this letter in many ways fitting and possible (e.g. sharing this to your circles of influence: friends, groups, etc.; studying this in your community; referring this to seminaries, catechetical institutes and Catholic schools for deepening; holding prayer sessions with this as theme; etc.), with the valuable assistance of your co-ministers and possibly with other sectors.

With your full collaboration, we hope that the spirit and message of this Pastoral Letter will reach the minds and hearts of all the faithful, and touched by the Spirit, strive to stand up to the call of all the Bishops in the Philippines expressed in this letter.

Your continued support inspires us to carry on in this challenging yet beautiful ministry among the youth. Imploring the Lord's blessings upon us all, I remain.
Standing firm in Christ,

(SGD.) REV. FR. CONEGUNDO B. GARGANTA
ECY Executive Secretary
