Prayer of the Youth
on the occasion of the CBCP Year of the Youth

Almighty Father, God of life and love,
through time and ages, You love us.
You trust and choose us
to participate in Your saving work.

Bless us, Your young people,
with Your grace.
Give us the gift of living life to the full
by encountering Your Son
in a personal way
and sustaining a relationship with Him,
by learning what life truly is
from His words and works,
from His filial relationship with You,
And by living in true and fruitful
communion with You
and with one another.

Empower us through Your Holy Spirit
to stand firm in the faith.
May we bring our fellow young people
closer to You so that together,
we become agents of change
and builders of a society of justice and
solidarity, love and peace.

Enable all of us:
Your young people,
together with those ministering to us
in the Church, in families and in society,
to make a decisive response
to our universal vocation;
to live fully and fruitfully
by doing everything in love
as we follow Jesus Christ
along the path of genuine trust in You.

In communion with the rest of the Church,
we pray that this CBCP Year of the Youth
become a kairos time
for the youth ministry of Your Church
and a new springtime for us,
Filipino youth: a special period
of growing in Your grace
through our living in youthful holiness
and through our effort to reach out
as a Church to those waiting for Your love.

Together with our Blessed Mother,
our model in giving oneself
entirely to Your will,
we lift this prayer to You
in Jesus Christ, Your Son,
our Friend, Brother and Lord,
in the Power of the Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.

Endorsement

Cardinal's Residence
P. O. Box 52
6000 Cebu City
Philippines

I am writing to introduce and endorse the request of the Commission On Youth (COY) of the Archdiocese of Cebu, Philippines represented by its Chairman, REV. MSGR. ARTURO R. NAVALES who wishes to appeal to your generous heart for the project of the Commission.

Msgr. Navales and his staff proposed to build a Center for Spirituality and skills-training for our young people inside the Archbishop's residence compound. Hence, the commission has launched a fundraising program entitled "baynte-singko mo, eskuylahan ko" to help them finance the said project. Soon, they will be distributing collection cans which will serve as receptacles for the coins, to all parish offices and other institutions.

Convinced of the great help this project would bring to our young people, I would like then to reiterate my endorsement of the request of the Commission of Youth for your generous assistance to help our youth realize their dreams.

As I thank you in advance for whatever consideration you may kindly extend to them, I wish to assure you of my prayers and blessings and remain

Sincerely in the Lord,

+RICARDO J. CARDINAL VIDAL

Archdiocese launches 25 centavo campaign
for building project

TWENTY-FIVE centavos can go a long way.

And for the Commission on Youth (COY) of the Archdiocese of Cebu, P.25 can help build a center for out-of-school youths.

"We are planning of putting up a center for the young people, where they can gather anytime of the day and converge," said Msgr. Arturo Navales, COY Chairman. The Commission yesterday launched the "P.25 Mo, Eskwelahan ko" fund raising campaign so it can use the money to build the youth center next year.

The commission will distribute collection cans in all parishes where donors may drop their donations.

"When people donate P.25 and they see the constructions of the youth center, they will feel part of the building. They can say 'I'm part of that'," said Mario Marababol, corporate secretary of the Archdiocesan Youthlinks Training and Assessment Center Inc.

Training

For the past three years, Youthlinks has been offering computer training courses and other technical courses to out-of-school youths in the archdiocese. Through the different courses, Youthlinks now has more than 1,000 graduates, who are now successfully employed locally and abroad, Marababol said.

"But since our population is growing, we saw the need to build a center solely intended for this, for the youth. That's why we are planning for a new building," he said,

Navales said the first floor will be used as a function room where all the youth may gather and exchange ideas, learn from each other and earn support from each other. Weekly confessions, prayer groups and seminars will also be held there.

At the second and third floors, technical and training courses will be offered. Navales said construction will start in March inside the compound of the Archbishop's Residence.

"The Cardinal has been very supportive throughout. He knows what this is intended for ... Our inspiration has been the Cardinal. There are no projects that he does not support", noted Navales.
