Prayer of the Youth
on the occasion of the CBCP Year of the Youth

Almighty Father, God of life and love,
through time and ages, You love us.
You trust and choose us
to participate in Your saving work.

Bless us, Your young people,
with Your grace.
Give us the gift of living life to the full
by encountering Your Son
in a personal way
and sustaining a relationship with Him,
by learning what life truly is
from His words and works,
from His filial relationship with You,
And by living in true and fruitful
communion with You
and with one another.

Empower us through Your Holy Spirit
to stand firm in the faith.
May we bring our fellow young people
closer to You so that together,
we become agents of change
and builders of a society of justice and
solidarity, love and peace.

Enable all of us:
Your young people,
together with those ministering to us
in the Church, in families and in society,
to make a decisive response
to our universal vocation;
to live fully and fruitfully
by doing everything in love
as we follow Jesus Christ
along the path of genuine trust in You.

In communion with the rest of the Church,
we pray that this CBCP Year of the Youth
become a kairos time
for the youth ministry of Your Church
and a new springtime for us,
Filipino youth: a special period
of growing in Your grace
through our living in youthful holiness
and through our effort to reach out
as a Church to those waiting for Your love.

Together with our Blessed Mother,
our model in giving oneself
entirely to Your will,
we lift this prayer to You
in Jesus Christ, Your Son,
our Friend, Brother and Lord,
in the Power of the Holy Spirit,
now and forever. Amen.

‘Media missions’ are the way to go

By:

“At the start of the year, we planned to go into media mission in whatever form may it be, either in the media, internet or any digital media. But because the year of faith will start on October 21, we thought of making the month of January to be the highlight on explaining the articles of faith by using digital media,” Licuanan said.

Bishop to youth ministers: Be humble like children

By: JAN DELL POSION

In his homily on the 2nd day of the National Conference for Youth Ministers (NCYM), Mallari, referring on the Gospel reading of the day, said that a child is always presented to the people as a model of humility because of their lack of pretenses which is so typical among adult people.

‘Ignorance of Bible is ignorance of God’

By: JAN DELL POSION

“Ignorance of the bible is ignorance of God. The bible can make you face life [squarely], it makes you a good Christian. Sabi nga ng mga kabataan ngayong panahon, ang walang cell phone, walang direction. Pero ang sabi ko naman, kailanman, ang walang bible, hindi stable [The youth of this generation say, those who do not have mobile phones, don’t have direction, but I say to them, those who do not have a bible, are not stable],” he said.

THE LASER MAN

By: Rev. Fr. Carmelo O. Diola

It was in 2005 when I first met the late Jesse Robredo during a gathering of NGO’s in Manila. During an open forum after his speech, he was asked about his six terms as mayor and how he managed to keep getting reelected without buying votes or its variations. People kept electing him, he said, because of his effective good governance work. I was deeply impressed. I asked for his cell phone number and he obliged with his patented winsome smile.

The Big RH Swindle

By: Francisco S. Tatad

No law prohibits contraception or sterilization. Everyone is free to contracept or get sterilized on their own. No law distinguishes abortifacients from mere contraceptives either. A woman could commit abortion while ostensibly practicing contraception only. This has been so for the last 35 years.

A Life Unborn

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request. Then he continued, "You see, in order for you not to take care two babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms."

My journey with Blessed Pedro

By: Mike Acebedo Lopez

I've become quite vocal about my aversion towards the RH Bill to the disappointment and frustration of some of my friends and passionate advocates. I don’t judge those who support the bill, some of them have the noblest of intentions; but some of them have not been very kind to me. I have been criticized, judged, and ridiculed for the position I've taken. Do I mind? God has been very good to me, and maybe this is one way I could give back in my own little way.

ANG IKA-TULONG PULONG

By: Msgr. Dennis Villarojo

Pope: Internet, an instrument for the proclamation of Christ

By: From the Vatican, 24 January 2010, Feast of Saint Francis de Sales.

The spread of multimedia communications and its rich "menu of options" might make us think it sufficient simply to be present on the Web, or to see it only as a space to be filled. Yet priests can rightly be expected to be present in the world of digital communications as faithful witnesses to the Gospel, exercising their proper role as leaders of communities which increasingly express themselves with the different "voices" provided by the digital marketplace.

Taize Pilgrimage of Trust: Reflection 5

By: Randy Pancito

The Taize prayer as experienced in the diocese was very simple. But during the 'Pilgrimage of Trust,' it was an extraordinary experience because of the simplicity of the prayer. And you know what made this an extraordinary experience? It was because of the people I met. They came from different countries, and belonged to different religions and of different experiences.

Taize Pilgrimage of Trust: Reflection 4

By: Krishna Jacalan

With silence, I am able to evaluate myself as to how am I living my life. With silence, I am able to find peace within me. And through silence, I am reminded that even if the world may seem too noisy and busy, there is always a time to sit back and search for personal silence. Noise just came out of this world because we made it intentionally or unknowingly... and so with silence. Silence would just come anytime if we would just let silence/peace come through and within us.

Taize Pilgrimage of Trust: Reflection 3

By: Jenny Marie Carba

He showed us that even in his hardships; he still has his faith in God. He told everyone that he never blamed his parents for his condition. He even thanked them... that his condition is the will of God. And he encouraged us that on the next Pilgrimage of Trust, we will be able to bring people with disabilities. To help transform the world, in his own little way, he himself transformed the world on that day.

Taize Pilgrimage of Trust: Reflection 2

By: Jessa Mae Carba

After the moments of silence, a meditation by Brother Alois, successor of Brother Roger, is done. He said that "through the Holy Spirit, God dwells with us". Upon hearing that, I have come to realize that God places us side by side and that He gives us the simplicity and solidarity in our heads.

My mother is a laundrywoman

By: Joseph Nathan Cruz

Most are comfortable with their neat pictures of the world. Comfortable with cute little concerns in the university like projects and papers, boyfriends and girlfriends, torn hymens, cheap thrills in the lagoon, concerts, cellphones, night lives and in this age that flaunts globalization, and the advance in technology, we are led to believe more and more that we have entered the age of solidarity, unity and age where there is interconnection in a global village that continues to spawn genuine development for all mankind. Indirectly, it leads us to a complacency supported by the lie that the world is alright. The pain and the suffering exist somewhere out there to a few insignificant people.

By: Br. Raymund E. Belleza, SJ

I was once part of the Commission on Youth for a number of years from the time of Fr. Jim Gorre to Fr. Junie Tupas. Those were my years of joy and fulfillment with the youth of Cebu. I am very grateful to the Archdiocese of Cebu Commission on Youth, because I am where I am now due to my experiences with the CDYCC and the Commission on Youth.
